So after receiving my results from my initial Glucose Challenge Test (GCT) last Friday, the Dr's office told me that my glucose levels were a bit higher than what they considered to be 'normal'. They asked that I come in for a Glucose Tolerance Test (GTT) this past Thursday where they draw blood to see where my glucose levels are after fasting for 12 hours, I drink the orange juice (tastes like a melted popsicle), and they draw blood every hour for three hours to see where my glucose levels are and how my body is reacting to the juice. It turns out that I was diagnosed with Gestational Diabetes which from what I am told is: "a type of diabetes that some women develop during pregnancy. Between 2 and 7 percent of expectant mothers develop this condition, making it one of the most common health problems of pregnancy." As much as I keep repeating that statistic in my head, it doesn't make me feel any better about this. I meet with a Doctor, a diabetic nurse and a nutritionist next Friday, the 3rd to discuss how 'bad' I have this and they'll teach me how to test my blood sugar, what foods to stay away from and how to restructure my diet to accomodate this temporary diagnosis.
Doing all of these things, possibly taking medication, sticking my arm with needles, or pricking my finger 6 times a day, or being on a strict diet....none of that bothers me as much as it bothers me that Izzy's little tiny body that is still developing is having to work extra hard because of how my body is processing glucose. That's the part that I'm having a hard time with. My sweet sister said that 'Izzy will forgive me', and I'm sure she's right, it's just hard news to take when everything seemed to be going so smoothly at over 6 months into the pregnancy.
The bright side of all of this is that the Dr.'s caught it when they were supposed to and now we take action to keep it under control so that Izzy isn't effected and maintains a healthy weight and she isn't hypoglycemic or hyperglycemic when she's born.
It's a road bump, but we're getting through it and will learn as much as we can to keep Izzy as healthy as she can be!

Art project for Izzy
I found this SUPER cool new site that allows you to create your own collages with all kinds of words and it puts them in a cool format at a click of a button....man I love the internet! Here's what I made for Izzy, it took a whole 30 seconds!

We had another Dr's appointment yesterday. I am at 24 weeks and doing just fine. No complications, other than some back pain, but the chiropractor is helping me with that. I go back to the Dr. on Friday of this week for the routine diabetes testing. They make you drink this icky sugar juice and then draw blood an hour later. Hopefully results for that will be normal, but other than that, this has been a really fun pregnancy so far! Dave has taken super good care of me, put up with my whining when my back hurts, and we get through it with a quick back rub, it's awesome!

New Baby Bedding for Izzy!

We bought baby bedding for Izzy this week. (We are thinking Isabella Mae Kavanaugh and have already started calling her Izzy) It is by far the coolest baby girl bedding I have EVER seen, I absolutely love it! I think I love it because it's not the traditional pastel stuff, it's FUN! We got the 10 piece bedding set with the diaper holder, the clothes hamper, 2 window valances, and the wall hangings. I plan to buy a 'rose damask' stencil and put that same pattern on the walls. My sister has agreed to paint a few quotes on the walls as well, her hand writing is so beautiful and I am completely the quote girl, so it'll be fun to see it all come together.
Dave also surprised me with a new 'travel system' when I got home from work on Tuesday night. It's the infant car seat with the matching jogger stroller in grey and light green, it's awesome! So we are officially done buying the big stuff for a little while, it just feels good to buy things bit by bit so it's not so overwhelming towards the end of the pregnancy with all that we still need.
Izzy's an active little bugger, she kicks a lot. Every morning after I have breakfast she gets a little workout session in of some kicks and punches while I'm sitting at my desk at work, and then in the afternoon she'll start right up again. I'm glad she's getting a decent exercise regimine in my belly! I love feeling her kick though, it's the most amazing and surprising thing to feel her twirling around in there getting comfortable and making her little body stronger.
One very sweet thing I have to share on here, we were going to bed last night and Dave whispered to my belly 'I love you' and my heart completely melted right then and there (yes, of course there were tears...happy ones). It was another reality check that there's a little person in me! I'm going to be 24 weeks tomorrow and I'm still getting daily reality checks that I'm actually pregnant and we're having a baby! I can't wait til July!
